Raasch, a graphic designer and ad man by nature, just celebrated his company’s first birthday and has never regretted going out on his own. “Once I decided to take the plunge and start my business I made sure to never look back for one moment,” Raasch said.

After 20-plus years of working for ad agencies, marketing firms, and creative departments, Raasch decided he wanted that responsibility of being his own boss and finding his own work. Raasch said, “I love knowing that I am 100% responsible for the success or failure of my business.”

MindFlameMindFlame has its roots in the Silicon Prairie as Raasch was born in Omaha and after multiple jobs across the state of Minnesota, Raasch found his place in Sioux Falls. He felt like Sioux Falls was the perfect place to start a business. “Not only has Sioux Falls fared well in this tough economy, but I think there is something to be said for the ‘can do’ attitude of the Midwest,” Raasch said.

As a small business owner myself, I asked Eric how he manages to wear every hat required to run a business. He told me it’s important to be lean and efficient, but know when is the right time to collaborate or bring in a specialist.

For those entrepreneurs considering starting your own business, Raasch offers a word of advice, “The most important thing is for me to spend my time on what I do best and collaborate with others to complement my strengths.”
