MVF: Entrepreneur Networking Reception Thursday
Midlands Venture Forum (MVF), an organization we partnered with earlier this year to promote and share video of their events, will be hosting an Entrepreneur Networking Reception this Thursday at DJ's Dugout (114th & W. Dodge in Miracle Hills).
Most often, their get-togethers take place at the Scott Conference Center and include a cocktail hour, three-course meal, and a presenter. While those events mainly attract members of MVF, Networking Receptions bring together a diverse group of individuals. From the experienced to the aspiring entrepreneurs as well as attorneys, accountants, bankers, and angel investors.
This Thursday, we'll be hearing from Paul Batcheller of Sioux Falls-based PrairieGold Venture Partners, a venture capital fund focused on investments in the Great Plains area.

Paul was part of our exciting venture capital panel at the September 2008 dinner meeting and has agreed to join us again in a more informal setting at the networking reception. He will give his thoughts on venture capital (VC) in the Midwest, what venture capitalists look for in deals, and the current state of the VC market. After his presentation, plenty of time will be allocated to a Q&A session to answer your questions about the venture capital process and environment.
His firm’s existing portfolio companies range from information technology, life sciences, and clean tech, with the latter two categories being the primary focus of their new second fund. As a founding partner in the firm, Paul oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment activities, from sourcing, structuring and negotiating investments to serving as a board member for portfolio companies. He currently serves on the boards of ZeaChem, iCentera, Game Plan Technologies, Augusta Systems and Agrivida. Prior to joining PrairieGold, Paul served as an advisor to Senator Tom Daschle, where he worked on economic policy, science and technology issues.
