We wanted to sit down with Lisa Waddell Smith of Mutual of Omaha who is the Communications Coordinator behind this coming weekend’s Wild About Omaha events!

Mutual of Omaha is doing some amazing things within our community including the sponsoring and hosting of the 2008 and upcoming 2012 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, the 13K sq. ft. tiger draped over its building to celebrate 100 years in the community as well as their generous support of this year’s inaugural Big Omaha event last May!

One of the main reasons we wanted to talk with Mutual is not only find out more about the weekend itself, but also talk with them about their very successful use of social media efforts through Twitter and Facebook in getting the word out about the festivities.

The entire weekend looks great but there’s a few stops in particular we might recommend including…

Flimstreams & Slowdown on 14th & Webster

Beginning at 5 p.m., Film Stream’s Ruth Sokolof Theater will offer free continuous showings of Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz and D.A. Pennebaker’s MontereyPop.

At 7 p.m., an outdoor concert (for those 18 years and older) featuring local bands including Flowers Forever and Azure Ray will kick-off in the parking lot of the Saddle Creek development. The nationally known act, Curisve, will take stage at 9 p.m. The concert will conclude at 11 p.m., but the festivities will continue inside Slowdown with a 21-and-older after party until 1 a.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

The Bemis Center at 724 South 12th

The Bemis will open its campus to offer the public the opportunity to visit studios and meet the artists who work out of The Bemis. The highlight will be the premiere of an immersive space, commissioned by nationally renowned artist Sean Ward. (SPN has seen a sneak peak of Sean Ward’s  space and it’s amazing!)

The art space will be a functional music venue in the Okada building (East of the main facility) and will host a concert featuring local bands. Beverages will be available for purchase during the concert.

Enjoy the video and we look forward to seeing you at some of this weekend’s Wild About Omaha festivities!
