Girls In TechLast week, we were stoked to receive news from Kt McBratney, copywriter at Phenomblue, that a Girls in Tech chapter will launch in Omaha on May 8th, during Friday evening’s festivities for BIG Omaha! We’re especially excited because Girls in Tech’s founder, Adriana Gascoigne, will be speaking earlier that day.

Created in February of 2007, Girls in Tech was born out of a need to provide a place for women to cultivate ideas around their careers and business concepts involving technology. It aims to offer a variety of resources and tools for women to supplement and further enhance their professional careers and aspirations in technology.

Kt, Girls in Tech Omaha managing director, said that the local chapter will offer educational programs, seminars and networking events as well as highlight the specific industry concerns of technology in Omaha.

Their first event, Friday’s launch party, will take place from 5:45 to 8 p.m. at Urban Wine Company. Free and open to the public (i.e. BIG Omaha badge not required), the event will celebrate Omaha’s women in technology and all those making their mark at the Big Omaha conference.

“We’re so excited to have Girls in Tech expand to the Omaha area. This event not only marks the start of a chapter in our area, but it sheds light on the passion and expertise of women in our local tech community,” Kt said.

To RSVP for the launch party, email omaha@girlsintech.net. The event is sponsored by Asset Appraisal Services and IPG. For more information, visit girlsintech.net.

Here’s an interview I grabbed with Adriana at SXSW. She speaks about Girls in Tech and why she started it as well as her job at hi5 and the nonprofit she’s launching this year.
