Des Moines December 15, 2008 by Dusty Davidson

Impromptu Studio

We received quite a bit of positive feedback and buzz regarding last weeks post about the coworking initiative here in Omaha. Thanks to everyone for your kind words of encouragement! It reminded us that a few weeks ago, Silicon Prairie News was in Des Moines and had the chance to interview Daniel Shipton of Impromptu Studio. Impromptu is Des Moines' first coworking effort, which opened just a few months ago.

From the Impromptu Studio site...

Impromptu Studio aims to foster connections between local business owners and entrepreneurs. Our members will also have a diverse pool of resources to draw from in the communtiy since every coworker with have a different specialty and level of experience. This dual pronged approach of community integration allows our members to become acquainted at multiple levels with individuals and businesses that can help them succeed for the years that follow.

Congrats to Daniel and everyone in Des Moines on putting together such a great space!

Last month after Impromptu hosted Ignite Des Moines I had a chance to do a piece for Iowa Public Radio about coworking in Des Moines.

Dusty & Jeff,
Thanks for the coverage. We are glad others find value in what we are doing here at Impromptu Studio. Keep us in the loop as your space starts taking shape! There is a new space coming online in Ames, IA called CoLab. We are excited to be leading the charge for the coworking movement in the Midwest! If you ever have questions, let me know.

Dan's coworking space is off to a great start and I can't wait to see what the DNA of the crowd there looks like a year from now. I think this is a tremendous resource for the city, its entrepreneurs, and soon-to-be entrepreneurs. I'm hoping some of the recent laid-off from the Des Moines Register and Principal get a fire lit under them and that they take advantage of a collaborative workspace like Impromptu.
