Omaha web 2.0 / social media conference?

Omaha August 21, 2008 by Jeff Slobotski

Whose interested?  We're gauging interest right now, but initial talks have included Gary Vaynerchuk, Tim Ferriss and Warren Buffett...yes that's right, Tim says he'll come to Omaha for free if we can get Warren on stage with him at the same time...

Are we up to the challenge? What do you think? Are you interested?

Recent Updates: Gary's in...regardless of who else dawns the stage! http://twitter.com/garyvee/statuses/895679575

Go Team Vaynerchuk!

Might be able count Frank Gruber, (Social Media @ AOL) in soon...and we're talking with Merlinn Mann and many others...stay tuned!

I'd be interested in hearing Buffets thoughts on Web 2.0. Do you think he would actually speak on the possibilities of social media? Are any of BRK.A 's companies currently using web 2.0 technologies and or social media? I'm curious.

I'd come, for sure. Buffet's pretty warm to organizations/ideas that respect and support Omaha, so think it's possible to get him.

That would be a blast of conference and if Buffets there people come out in droves and the media usually covers were he talks too.

This would be amazing Jeff. I'd be there in a heart beat.

You know I love the way that you think Jeff and this sounds like a pretty good line-up. Someone above mentioned T. Boone Pickens and I reeeeaaaally like that idea. And it kind of leads me to think that this could be about something broader than social media (no disrespect)...something along the lines of a TED Conf for more than just the people who are successful and can afford to attend...changing the world through social media, collaboration, innovation, etc....for front line folks, emerging leaders, etc.

I would go! Seems very helpful and inspirational. What a great idea.

Aug 26, 2008 at 04:29 AM

We’re there. We work with a couple of new social media .coms who want to take it to the next level. We’d love to learn more from everyone.

Aug 26, 2008 at 10:23 AM

Whoa! That would be cool. The best thing about social media is that it bleeds into SOOOOO many other things. This is completely exciting, let me know how I can help. I am trying to think about who I want. OOOOh, Malcolm Gladwell would be cool!

AIM Institute is finalizing a slate of Web 2 seminars that will be held at Gallup and will begin in October. These one hour seminars will be kicked off on October 8 by Anthony Williams, co-author of Wikinomics. After that, a variety of seminars will be held as well as a few all-day workshops designed to help local businesses use collective intelligence, collaboration, and web-based apps to enhance their traditional web approaches. You can find more info on Williams' visit at http://www.aiminstitute.org/whats-new/futures-forum-2.html. I am heading into a planning meeting right now on Fall seminars, so more to follow on that very soon. The speakers will be world-class, so we would love to partner with anyone (including Warren B) local or national to keep this rolling.

To me this seems to be about exploring the intersection of social media and social change. Thinking about that here are some random words that come to mind and some random ideas for a name...
Emergence
Evolution
Revolution
The NEXT Conference
The Big Fat Idea Summit
Dropping Knowledge
Whats The Big Idea
Intersections
Nexus
Matrix

I am so there if you get Buffett!! Nah, I am so there any way you cut it!

Sep 3, 2008 at 10:42 AM

When/where did these initial talks happen? Of course we would go. Its not a matter of who would go, but how much you could charge
(who wouldn't go). With either Buffett or Ferriss, its clear that people would go, as long as they knew about it.

Sep 23, 2008 at 06:02 AM

Yeah, I'd hop on a plane from Chicago for that!

Sep 23, 2008 at 03:27 PM

I'm interested.

Oct 30, 2008 at 08:30 AM
